I already have a roommate picked out. Can I still use the shared housing program?
Yes. If you have friends attending the same school who you want to live with, just include their names on your application and make certain that they include you on their applications too.
What happens after you receive my application?
After we receive your application, we review your preferences so we can find you a great place to live with roommates you'll like to hang out with. The review process typically takes a few weeks. Once you're approved, we'll send information and reminders about every 45 days to help you get ready for move-in day. Please keep everything together. You'll need it for move-in.
What is included in a furnished apartment?
Apartment configurations may vary but typically include living room, dining room and bedroom furniture, twin beds, heat and air conditioning with budgeted utility costs included, most include dishwashers and full-size appliances. All you need are the essentials – food, cookware, clothes, linens, and cleaning supplies. Apartment communities typically feature on-site laundry facilities, clubhouses, swimming pools and/or exercise facilities.

Items that are typically shared within the apartment, such as the vacuum, are recommended to be brought if you own them. We suggest to wait and see what your roommates bring before purchasing such items. There are typically stores close by to purchase these items if needed.

Am I completely on my own once I arrive?
No. Many of our communities have student resident assistants living on-site and there is a Collegiate Housing Services representative available at your school to answer questions.
What should I expect on move-in day?
We typically work with your school to coordinate move-ins a few days before classes begin. Usually you will arrive at school for a short housing orientation in the morning, submit your signed paperwork with initial payment, then receive your keys and move in.
What happens if I don't get along with my roommates?
a. We recognize that moving away from home and roommate living can sometimes be a challenge. Most of the time we're able to work out student conflicts; other times we take steps to adjust the living situation. We've been in business since 1988 and are experienced in mediating roommate issues toward mutual satisfaction. But, if a resolution can't be made, then transfers are available.
What happens if my roommates don't make their housing payment?
Each student living in our shared housing program is on a separate lease. You are only responsible for your own payment each month.
What happens if I transfer to another school?
If that school also partners with Collegiate Housing Services, we can work with you to find suitable housing.
What are the refund policies regarding online application and housing payments?

APPLICATION FEE: Each student is responsible for submitting the application fee with his or her application. (See rate sheet for specific application fee amounts.) The application fee is non-refundable.

SERVICE FEE & HOUSING DEPOSIT: Service fees and housing deposits (if owed) are due with the application and application fee. See rate sheet for specific fee and deposit amounts for your school, or ask your CHS representative for details. Written notice of housing cancellation must be received thirty (30) days prior to your originally scheduled move-in date in order to receive a service fee or deposit refund. Refunds of housing deposits after move-in will be made in accordance with your lease agreement.

HOUSING PAYMENT: Refunds of housing payments will be made in accordance with your lease agreement.

What are the different methods of payments with CHS?
  1. Online Payment Methods: All Payments made online must be received by 4:30 pm to be considered "payment received". Payments made after 4:30 pm will be processed on the next business day and will be marked "received" for that day.

  2. Snail Mail Methods: All payments mailed to the CHS corporate processing center are received once a day from the various shipping methods available. Payments received in the corporate processing center before the end of business will be marked payment "received" that same day.
    • Checks, Money Orders, Company Checks etc...
  3. Drop Box: Most campuses we serve have drop boxes for housing payments near the campus’ CHS office. Please contact your respective CHS representative to locate these drop boxes. Drop boxes may be used for checks and money orders and/or authorization forms for recurring ACH & Credit Card type payments. All payments received during the day are marked as payment "received". However these payments may not be processed till the next drop-box pickup date.
  4. Telephone: Students/Parents/Guarantors may also call the CHS corporate processing center (800-866-8346) to submit their payments. Telephone payments can be made by credit card authorization or e-check authorization only. CHS accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
* "received" - All payments marked received by the end of the business day using the above payment methods are processed the same business day. Payments made through our online system will be available for review the following business day.

CHS Plan Ahead Program FAQ

What is CHS Plan Ahead Program?
The CHS Plan Ahead Program lets you and your family set aside money for housing expenses from the time you are accepted into our housing program, to the day you move in. Many students’ family members use this feature to prepay move-in costs and future monthly housing fees, thereby reducing the financial burden on move-in day or while their student is in school.
How do I sign up?
It's simple. You will need to go to the Payment section of your online CHS Student Account and select One Time Payment or select Setup Recurring Payment. We suggest you set up a recurring payment schedule to automate the Plan Ahead Program process.

Can a family member add funds to my account?
Yes. If you share your login information, a family member can sign into your account and add funds online. Of course, advanced payments may also be added to your account anytime, via snail mail or by calling a payment into our office.
Is the money refundable if I do not end up attending my school?
Yes. Service fees and housing deposits are refundable for any reason until 30 days prior to move-in. Prepaid monthly housing fees are refundable for any reason until the first of the month in which they are actually owed (less any applicable lease cancellation costs).
What if I've moved in, pre-paid for several months, and decide to move-out?
All pre-paid money would be refunded less any applicable early lease termination fees or excess charges per your move-out inspection.
